Threaded Fasteners Nuts and Bolts of the Game: LSU a huge underdog

Threaded Fasteners Nuts and Bolts of the Game

In 2011, Auburn was the reigning national champion but suffering through a miserable season. The Tigers lost five games that season, all of which came by at least 14 points. The Tigers were underdogs by more than 20 points against Georgia, LSU and Alabama. Not only did they loss all three of those rivalry games, but they failed to cover the spread in each.

Those three games were the modern college football record for the largest point spread underdog ever for a defending national champion. Until now.

This Saturday Alabama is a 30-point favorite over defending national champion LSU. That’s the largest such number in the 40 years since such records have been readily available.

Last year, when LSU was in the middle of a season that may have been the greatest in college football history, the Tigers were a 5-point underdog in Tuscaloosa. LSU won 46-41.

Nobody is expected that kind of competitive game this time.

LSU’s worst home loss came in a 28-point blowout to Florida in 1991. There may not be much drama about which team is going to win this year, but the possibility of eclipsing that 28-point margin does provide some intrigue.

For Threaded Fasteners I’m Randy Kennedy with Nuts and Bolts of the Game.
