The last visiting coach to come to Tuscaloosa and spoil homecoming was Nick Saban. Since that LSU win in 2001, Alabama has made sure to schedule some sure wins for the returning alumni to enjoy. In 2021, that opponent is Tennessee.
We’ve all witnessed the decline of Tennessee football in recent years, but that doesn’t mean the Third Saturday in October (actually the fourth Saturday this year) should also be a homecoming gimme for the Tide.
Time will tell if first-year head coach Josh Heupel can eventually return the Volunteers to championship contenders. In the short term, the Vols need to Tighten Up and simply remove their name from future homecoming consideration.
