Threaded Fasteners Tighten Up: Auburn football's leaders need to step up

Auburn athletics director Allen Greene was in front of the press Saturday as Auburn unveiled construction on its new football only facility. And he again failed to show the leadership his position requires.

With head coach Bryan Harsin out of work after testing positive for COVID-19 and the football team facing an outbreak of the virus, Greene had a chance to be a strong voice about the importance of vaccinations.

But he chose to ignore his position of leadership. The best he could do was say that many football players have said they want to get vaccinated. Meanwhile, the team hovers near a 50 percent vaccination rate.

Greene can’t make anyone get vaccinated. But it’s his responsibility to say privately and publicly that getting vaccinated is the right and smart thing to do. If not for the sake of personal and public safety, then because it’s what will prevent Auburn from being at a competitive disadvantage.

Greene needs to Tighten Up and be the leader he was hired to be.

For Threaded Fasteners, I’m Randy Kennedy with Tighten Up.
