Threaded Fasteners Tighten Up: Nebraska giving up too many close games

Some teams just know how to win. Then there are the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Nebraska wrapped up its Big Ten season with a 28-21 loss to Iowa on Friday. The Cornhuskers led the Hawkeyes 21-6, but nobody actually thought they would hold on and win. That’s because this is what has happened almost every week this season.

Nebraska finished the season with a 1-8 conference record. The eight losses were by 8, 3, 4, 7, 5, 9, 7 and 7. They also lost to Oklahoma by 7.

The result is a 3-9 overall record in which Nebraska shockingly outscored its opponents by 93 points. The three blowout wins were by a combined 149 points. The nine losses were by 56 points.

Clearly the Cornhuskers have some talent. But coach Scott Frost needs to Tighten Up and figure a way to win a close game at least every once in a while.

For Threaded Fasteners, I’m Randy Kennedy with Tighten Up.
