Some very exciting news! Carnival Cruise Lines has announced new cruise destinations from the Port of Mobile during 2018. The destinations themselves are worth a mention, because Carnival has previously done just Western Caribbean cruises from the Alabama Cruise Terminal.

Not anymore.

Some of the new cruise routes for 2018:

  • Eastern Caribbean, including Key West and The Bahamas.
  • Longer Western Caribbean cruises -- 8-day cruises would also feature Belize and Mahogany Bay (Honduras), and a 6-day cruise would add Grand Cayman to the itinerary
  • A cruise branded as Carnival Journeys will sail from Mobile during September 2018, taking in the Panama Canal and Limón, Costa Rica.

Beyond the destinations, however, the last official word we had on Carnival's intentions was for an initial run of Western Caribbean cruises through November 26, 2017. While Carnival continued to book some Mobile-based Western Caribbean cruises into 2019, that didn't mean a new contract had been signed and it didn't mean Carnival couldn't still change its mind.

These new destinations indicate that Carnival has had plenty of time to think about it and has decided to get even more serious about building its cruise business from Mobile.
